12 Years a Slave to Art

This is a must see movie. It certainly is no easy ride. It is absolutely beautiful and brutal in equal measure.

I had mixed feelings about seeing this. Hints at some of the brutality made me uncomfortable before going in. The story is told with a grace and beauty rarely seen on todays big screen. The director takes his time with each shot. Often lingering on the details. Some of the shots perhaps linger a little 2 long for this audience member and perhaps a little more discipline in the editing room wouldn’t have gone amiss. Outstanding performances from all involved, especially Lupita Nyong’o as Patsey. Oscar material if ever there was.

This movie is on a scale and par with The Shawshank Redemption. See it. You won’t regret it.
